The Logistics Manager is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and execution of all logistical functions supporting organ recovery services. This position ensures that transportation, equipment, personnel, and recovered organs are managed in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and established operational standards. The role requires precise coordination, adherence to time‑critical processes, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Transportation and Logistics Management
- Manage the coordination of air and ground transportation for surgical teams, equipment, and recovered organs.
- Maintain operational relationships with aviation vendors, medical couriers, and transportation partners.
- Ensure all logistical activities comply with organ viability timeframes and safety protocols.
2. Surgical Team Operational Support
- Oversight of the scheduling and deployment of recovery teams, including transportation, on‑site logistical needs and lodging when needed.
- Ensure availability and readiness of surgical instruments, sterile supplies, and preservation solutions.
- Provide operational oversight during on-going organ recoveries and serve as the primary point of contact for logistical matters requiring manager decision making.
3. Organ Packaging and Chain‑of‑Custody Compliance
- Maintain accurate chain‑of‑custody documentation and ensure compliance with tracking and reporting requirements.
- Implement and monitor organ‑tracking systems to support operational transparency and regulatory adherence.
4. Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all logistical operations comply with OPTN/UNOS policies, OPO requirements, and internal standard operating procedures.
- Participate in internal audits, quality reviews, and incident investigations.
- Maintain operational records, performance metrics, and quality documentation as required.
5. Stakeholder Communication and Coordination
- Oversee communications between OPOs, transplant centers, donor hospitals, and transportation vendors.
- Provide timely updates during organ recovery activities and escalate operational issues as appropriate.
- Support the development and maintenance of professional relationships with clinical and operational partners.
6. Operational Leadership and Administrative Oversight
- Supervise logistics coordinators, dispatch personnel, or other assigned staff.
- Develop, revise, and implement standard operating procedures and training materials.
- Collaborate with administrative and clinical leadership in the creation of on‑call schedules and ensure continuous operational readiness.
Work Environment
- Position requires participation in an on‑call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work will be performed remotely with occasional travel as required by operational needs.
- Duties involve managing time‑sensitive, mission‑critical activities in support of organ transplantation.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Experience in medical logistics, aviation logistics, transplant operations, or related time‑sensitive operational environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of chain‑of‑custody principles and critical‑care transport logistics.
- Ability to work in a complex, 24/7 operational setting with rotating on‑call responsibilities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency with dispatch systems, tracking software, and standard office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), transplant centers, or organ‑recovery service providers.
- Familiarity with OPTN/UNOS policies and organ‑transport regulatory requirements.
- Supervisory or team‑lead experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, logistics, operations management, or a related field.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Pay or Salary Range: $80,000 - $105,000
