JOB SUMMARY: Oversees the operation of individual hot air balloons in the Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s. Pilots serve as the first point of contact for their Parade Balloon Handlers on assigned Balloon (including minors). They are responsible for communicating safety and service direction using vocal projection and hand signals. Pilots must safely fly balloons over 20ft. high and are responsible for maneuvering balloons through obstacles both backstage and onstage. They must be attentive and alert to ensure the guest and team member safety and be comfortable walking backwards for over a mile.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide training and direction to Balloon Handlers (including Minors) to ensure a proper handling of the balloons during the Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s. Conducts daily shift meetings. Must be able to perform all functions of a Parade Balloon Handler.
- Acts as first point of contact for Parade Balloon Handlers in the absence of a Team Leader. Responsible for the consistent direction of 10-30 Parade Balloon Handlers per Balloon while using vocal projections and hand signals. Adhere to predetermining instructions for flying Balloon over 20ft. in the air through backstage and onstage areas per Balloon type (Small, Medium, and Large) while maintaining communication and directions. Walk backwards over a mile and be able to remain attentive to ensure guest and team member safety.
- Assist with prep, setup, and clean-up of Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s Balloons and surrounding areas. Completes all administrative assigned tasks (rotation sheet, checklist, etc.). Ensure daily rotation are adjusted accordingly and lunches/breaks are properly managed (including Minors).
- Observes and directs Team Members compliance with wardrobe and grooming standards. Observes and coaches to ensure all Team Members are following proper safety guidelines for maneuvering hot air balloons.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: High school degree or GED: Preferred
EXPERIENCE: 0-1 Year: Experience within the professional theme park/theater industry preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
