The General Services Department (GSD) supports the operations of state government by providing essential services, including procurement, risk management, facilities management, transportation services, and printing services. The Aviation Services Bureau provides airplane transportation for state agencies, including the Health Department's Children's Medical Services. CMS serves children and adults under 21 with moderate to severe special health care needs.

The selected candidate will be compensated at a base rate of $64.45 per hour, plus a 9.7% Temporary Recruitment Differential. Salary is non-negotiable.
Why does the job exist?
This position exists to provide safe and reliable air transportation for the State of New Mexico through the General Services Department¿s Aviation Services Bureau. The position operates the State¿s King Air C90GT and King Air 200 Series aircraft to Airline Transport Pilot standards, transporting passengers throughout New Mexico and across the United States. The position also ensures State aircraft are properly maintained, flight-ready, and operated in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements and aircraft manufacturer standards.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities include:
- Pilot State aircraft, including preparing flight plans, reviewing weather conditions, navigating flights, and completing weight and balance calculations.
- Coordinate routine aircraft maintenance, troubleshoot issues, order parts, and complete authorized repairs that can be performed in the field.
- Maintain required FAA records, aircraft logbooks, and navigational manuals.
- Ensure State aircraft are maintained in accordance with FAA requirements and aircraft manufacturer standards.
- Coordinate and oversee required FAA and manufacturer inspections.
- Maintain required certifications, training, and pilot proficiency, and stay current with applicable FAA regulations.
- Maintain the interior and exterior cleanliness of State aircraft and ensure aircraft are ready for flight.

Minimum Qualification
The educational equivalent of an Associate's Degree in Aviation, Natural Resource Management or related degree in Aviation or Natural Resource Management, Commercial Pilot's License and at least two (2) years of experience piloting single and/or multi-engine fixed wing aircraft or helicopters and completion of 1,000 flight hours, not less than 200 hours of which must have been gained within the last two years. At the General Services Department, Airline Transport Pilot licensure is required. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must have and maintain Commercial Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, current Second (II) Class Medical Certificate. Required flight experience includes: 1500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC), 500 hours High Density Altitude Operations (above 5000 ft.). Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
This position has both office and field work elements. While in the office, extended periods will be spent sitting at desks, computers, meetings, and talking to public on telephone and in person. Out of doors, this person will spend extended periods traveling to various locations around the state. Weekend work and overnight stays are common. Long days (12-14 hours) are to be expected when completing certain projects. This person will need physical strength and stamina to safely operate multi-engine aircraft at high density altitude (above 5,000 ft.). Equipment used will be standard office equipment, multi-engine aircraft, ½ to ¾ ton 4 wheel drive vehicles, and may include 'goose-neck' and bumper-hitch trailers. Specific tool use may include GPS, GIS, radio telemetry, cameras, spotting scopes, binoculars, other ocular and environmental measuring instruments, capture equipment such as net-guns, dart guns, drop nets, drive nets, clover traps, corral traps and laboratory items such as centrifuges, syringes, scalpels, microscopes, slides, stethoscopes, thermometers, scissors, and standard construction tools such as drills, saws, hammers, shovels, wrenches, axes, and chainsaws.
