About LIFT and the role
LIFT Aircraft developed HEXA, an 18-rotor, single-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. LIFT Aircraft builds HEXA, an 18-rotor, single-seat electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
As our Aircraft Technician / Maintainer, you’ll keep the fleet ready to fly. You’ll inspect, maintain, repair and modify the aircraft, and keep records that show what was done and why. You’ll work closely with engineering, flight test operators and first responders.
HEXA flies under FAA Part 103 as an ultralight, so it isn’t a certified aircraft and no FAA mechanic certificate is required, but we maintain the fleet as if it were certified. This role suits someone who likes careful, hands-on work, keeps a tidy logbook and brings that discipline whether or not a regulation demands it.
What you'll do
Keep the aircraft airworthy
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and repairs on HEXA aircraft.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors, propellers, wiring harnesses, connectors, sensors and hardware.
- Inspect and maintain airframe structure, including composite and fastened components.
- Assist in assembly of aircraft from base structural and electrical components to completion.
- Service, inspect and assemble lithium-ion battery packs and charging equipment.
- Present completed work for engineering sign-off before return to service.
Keep the records straight
- Maintain maintenance logs, component hours and cycles, and part traceability for each aircraft.
- Track aircraft configuration and make sure every change is documented and approved.
- Write and improve maintenance procedures, inspection checklists and work instructions.
- Manage spare parts, tools and consumables, and flag what needs ordering.
Work with engineering and flight test
- Build, install and test modifications and upgrades from engineering.
- Join root-cause reviews of failures and report discrepancies on the aircraft.
- Support flight days: preflight checks, site setup, turnarounds between flights and post-flight inspection.
- Feed what you learn into the maintenance standards agencies will eventually use.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on work building, maintaining or repairing aircraft, drones, electric vehicles or similar electromechanical systems.
- Experience in a certified or regulated maintenance environment, such as Part 91, Part 135/145, military or a comparable regulated industry. You know what certified-aircraft discipline looks like and can bring it here.
- Solid electrical skills: soldering, crimping, harness repair and using a multimeter. Ability to read a wiring diagram.
- Solid mechanical skills with hand and power tools, including torque procedures and fastener safety.
- Safe handling of lithium-ion batteries and high-current DC systems, or willingness to be trained.
- Disciplined record-keeping. If it isn't written down, it wasn't done.
- Comfort following SOPs and contributing to the creation and refinement of new procedures
- Ability to work on-site in the Austin area and support flexible test schedules.
Preferred qualifications
Not required, but each one is a plus.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate, or progress toward one.
- Experience with multi-rotor drones, eVTOL, experimental, homebuilt or light-sport aircraft.
- Experience with prototyping electromechanical systems
- Knowledge of 3D printing and other rapid prototyping methods
- Comfort navigating 3D models within CAD software
- Experience with brushless motors, ESCs, battery management systems or flight controllers.
- Composite repair experience.
- Ability to assemble coaxial cables as defined in IEC 60352-2
- Harness or soldering training, such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 or J-STD-001.
- Experience setting up a maintenance tracking system or parts inventory.
Working conditions
- Work is mostly in the hangar, with time at outdoor test sites in Texas heat, cold and wind.
- Long stretches standing, kneeling, reaching and working in tight spaces around the aircraft.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs, such as batteries, equipment and aircraft components.
- Wear PPE when working with batteries, composites, solvents and operating aircraft.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to test sites.
Compensation and benefits
- Salary: Range starts at $68,000 (actual depends on experience), plus share options.
- Medical (PPO and HMO options), dental and vision.
- 401(k) with company match.
- 2 weeks paid time off.
- On-the-job training on HEXA systems and our maintenance and flight test processes.
