Summary:
Loving Your Job Enables Living The Dream
If you’re looking for a job that’s an adventure you work hard at making every day something special, being a part of a team doing an excellent mission, then please consider applying.
If you don’t know what our mission is and you’re not really interested in working hard making each day the best it can be, instead taking the easy way, please don’t apply. On the other hand, if you believe each day is an opportunity to live life to its fullest, and realize you’re getting to participate in an adventure that you’re paid for, working hard as a member of a team cooperatively in the detection and suppression effort of wildland fire, then this is a job for you. We work hard, we do our best every mission and can walk away at the end of the day with a feeling of accomplishment. We are looking for pilots with an excellent foundation of pilot skills and aviation knowledge, from there we will help build your abilities and understanding of the fire environment, and how to be an excellent fire pilot. Demanding more than most people have as a background of experience, our training program is rigorous with high expectations for aptitude, and a very positive attitude towards fastidious study with high retention levels of information expected. Initially we expect each pilot to be a professional in attitude with fundamental aviation experience and upon that we will build you into a professional wildland fire pilot, capable of operating safely in smoky mountains at high altitudes in high temperature windy environments. These operations are not for the faint of heart but are for those who understand their limits based upon continuing expansion of capability and know how to execute judgment for your own limits.
We are looking for pilots who will commit several seasons to learn the ropes. While this training and experience of one or two seasons might provide a stepping stone to jump into an air tanker with the high glitz appeal of that, we would hope the applicant might realize that being in the “Chess Masters” Air Attack Aircraft can be a far more fulfilling role. While air tanker retardant dropping is a specialized talent and skill, working as a new tactical control pilot flying Air Attack and Fire Intelligence missions often requires more knowledge of operations in complex airspace with overall talent and understanding of a much larger picture of the airspace, and the fire mission.
The Pilot Experience Requirements listed in this posting are not waiverable due to contractual requirements. Please ensure your resume so show’s at least these minimums.
If this sounds like something you’d like to commit a few years to in order to become truly proficient and an excellent fire fighting pilot, please drop your resume and apply.
