Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and highly skilled A&P Mechanic with Inspection Authorization (IA) and a passion for aviation history. This role focuses on the preservation, restoration, and maintenance of vintage military aircraft (Warbirds). You will be responsible for ensuring these historic assets remain airworthy through meticulous annual inspections and complex structural and engine repairs.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee aviation staff: scheduling, safety, living history flight exemption requirement documentation and all FAA governmental regulations.
- Specialized Maintenance: Perform routine and unscheduled maintenance on vintage airframes, large radial or high-performance piston engines and turban powered aircraft.
- IA Inspections: Lead and sign off on annual and 100-hour inspections, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations for experimental, certified, and limited-category aircraft.
- Restoration: Manage long-term restoration projects, including deep-level structural repairs and sourcing or fabricating obsolete parts from blueprints.
- Fabrication: Utilize specialized skills in sheet metal, fabric covering, and welding (TIG/Gas) to repair or replicate historical components.
- Documentation: Maintain precise, comprehensive logbooks and weight-and-balance records essential for maintaining the value and history of the aircraft.
- Avionics: Maintain and repair essential avionics equipment in aircraft.
Required Qualifications
- Certification: Active FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license with current Inspection Authorization (IA).
- Warbird Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with vintage military aircraft (e.g., P-51, T-6, B-25, Stearman).
- Engine Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency with large displacement radial engines (Pratt & Whitney, Wright) or V-12 engines (Allison, Rolls-Royce Merlin).
- Tools: Must possess a professional-grade toolbox with standard and specialized aircraft tools.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to manage and oversee aviation staff, scheduling, safety, living history flight exemption requirements and all FAA governmental regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret original manufacturer blueprints and technical manuals.
- Ensure high quality repairs are completed timely to ensure aviation safety.
