Job Description:
The Cost Accountant provides critical financial and operational visibility by analyzing, tracking, and reporting manufacturing costs across the organization. This role supports production, supply chain, engineering, and leadership by ensuring accurate cost structures, monitoring variances, validating labor and material reporting, and strengthening cost-control processes.
The Cost Accountant develops and maintains cost models, supports pricing and quoting exercises, reconciles production activity, and supports continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing waste and improving financial performance. This role enhances organizational capability and accountability through accurate cost reporting, data integrity, and strong partnership with operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain and analyze standard costs for materials, labor, etc. across all product lines.
- Review and reconcile production orders, labor reporting, and material usage; investigate discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform variance analysis (PPV, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap/rework, inventory adjustments) and present findings.
- Provide cost data to support quotes, proposals, pricing decisions, and customer program evaluations.
- Maintain accurate cost records within the ERP system (Global Shop Solutions or similar).
- Generate cost reports, dashboards, KPIs, and presentations for leadership.
- Identify opportunities to streamline costing processes, improve data quality, and reduce waste across operations.
- Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with CUI, ITAR, data governance, and company policies.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret cost data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, cost modeling).
- Knowledge of cost accounting principles, standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting.
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain financial information to non-financial partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Problem-solving mindset with an ability to identify root causes and recommend actionable improvements.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Knowledge and Experience
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (Global Shop is a plus).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production workflows, and cost drivers.
- Experience with standard costing, inventory accounting, and cost-to-produce methodologies.
- Familiarity with KPIs, operational metrics, and performance measurement in a manufacturing environment.
- Basic understanding of aerospace quality and compliance requirements (AS9100, ITAR) is a plus.
- 2–5 years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, financial analysis, or related field.
- Experience in aerospace, precision manufacturing, or industrial environments strongly preferred.
Work Eligibility (ITAR): This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident or persons with protected status.
