Biewer Sawmill is looking to add a Full Time 1st shift Diesel Mechanic to our team in McBain, MI. The Diesel Mechanic Technician is responsible for the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of all rolling stock and mobile equipment used throughout the sawmill. This includes forklifts, loaders, log yard equipment, yard trucks, and other mobile machinery essential to mill production and material handling. The role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports efficient mill operations.
Hours: 5am-5pm, Monday/Tuesday Rotation
Diesel Mechanic Accountabilities:
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Answering breakdown calls in all departments when needed.
- Clean Lubricate, perform routine maintenance and replace defective parts on diesel equipment such as forklifts, and wheel loaders.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all rolling stock equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and complete necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and equipment reports.
- Ensure all equipment is operated safely and in compliance with mill policies and regulatory standards.
- Monitor equipment performance and report defects or hazards immediately.
- Lubrication, tire changes, and component replacements.
- Work closely with supervisors, maintenance teams, and yard personnel to support production needs.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Diesel Mechanic Qualifications:
- Climb and descend a flight of stairs several times a day
- Walk, stand, kneel for up to 8 hours
- Bend and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manipulate hand tolls such as wrenches, screwdrivers, impacts, ect….
