We are looking for an Interior CAD Designer to join our R&D team. You will design custom interior components that fit seamlessly into our classic truck builds. This role requires precision, creativity, and close collaboration with our fabrication and upholstery teams.
Job description
Fat Fender Garage is a nationally recognized, custom vintage truck and parts builder known for our innovative and elegant designs. As a 3D CAD Designer for Fat Fender Garage, you’d be responsible for product innovation, part's file keeping, operating 3D printers and more to help our customers build the truck of their dreams. We specialize in full, frame up vintage truck builds and premier custom chassis building, along with our growing custom parts business. We are looking for a skilled 3D CAD Designer to assist in the development of custom classic truck parts to expand the retail side of the company, and to custom tailor or design one-off parts for our build projects.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop custom interior components (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
- Create 3D models and technical drawings for fabrication and installation
- Use 3D scanning and 3D printing for prototyping and fitment validation
- Collaborate with upholstery and fabrication teams to ensure proper fit and function
- Revise and improve designs based on test fits and team feedback
- Maintain organized project files and documentation
- Support R&D in developing new interior solutions and products
Requirements:
- CAD design experience (SolidWorks strongly preferred, but other CAD programs considered)
- Experience with 3D scanning and 3D printing
- Understanding of automotive interiors, ergonomics, and fitment challenges
- Ability to translate design concepts into production-ready parts
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently and with a team
Preferred Skills (not required):
- Knowledge of CNC machining and laser cutting
- Familiarity with upholstery processes and materials
- Understanding of automotive electrical components or dashboards
- Applicant preferred to have experience in designing for manufacturing. 3D printing experience is a plus.
- Automotive industry experience is preferred, but not required.
- Sharp attention to detail, strong verbal/written communication skills, and the ability to follow instructions are all necessities.
- Knowledge of sheetmetal design and fabrication, machining, Tig & Mig welding, etc. is a plus.
