Job Description
The RW Captain serves as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of Company rotorcraft, holding final authority and responsibility for the safe transportation of passengers, crewmembers, and cargo on every flight. The RW Captain reports to the Chief Pilot on all matters of Company policy and procedure and must hold an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the appropriate category and class rating and be fully qualified for the assigned aircraft and position. Duties may be delegated to other crew members, but the responsibility for those duties remains with the PIC at all times.
Authority
- Final authority to operate the assigned aircraft.
- Authority to delay, cancel, or discontinue a flight when conditions are unsuitable for initiation or continuation.
- Authority to alter the planned flight in progress when doing so is appropriate for the safer operation of the aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Strictly adhere to Company operating policies and aircraft performance limitations (takeoff, enroute, landing, special operations, mountainous airports, etc.) to mitigate the risk of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).
- Plan each flight with full consideration of weather suitability, routing, airports and traffic conditions, airway facilities, and aircraft performance.
- Ensure that once a flight is initiated, it is completed as planned, instituting any changes required by enroute conditions in accordance with applicable procedures and rules.
- Review and report the maintenance status of each aircraft and conduct a proper preflight inspection per the approved Aircraft Flight Manual or accepted checklist.
- Complete a thorough check of weather and facilities along the route of flight and at airports to be used.
- Conduct all flights in accordance with the Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
- Verify that weight and balance procedures are followed and that gross weight and CG remain within limits throughout the flight.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, aircraft, and crew at all times.
- Accurately complete all trip paperwork in accordance with current Company procedures.
- Comply with all Certificate Holder directions, operational control requirements under Part 135, and applicable regulations, operations specifications, and Company policy.
- Report any flight interruptions to the Company prior to the next departure.
- Perform all duties in a professional manner, setting the standard for crewmembers in conduct, appearance, alertness, discipline, and adherence to policy, while fostering open communication and crew resource management toward a shared goal of safe flight operations.
Minimum Experience / Requirements
Candidates must meet all the following minimum qualifications to serve as PIC:
- Commercial Pilot Certificate with a Rotorcraft-Helicopter IFR rating. *
- 2,000 hours total Helicopter time (1,500 hours if military trained).
- 1,500 hours Helicopter PIC (1,200 hours military exception).
- 1,000 hours Turbine Helicopter.
- 500 hours Multi-Engine Helicopter.
- 50 hours Night.
- First Class Medical Certificate (must be acquired prior to employment).
- *All hires must either hold an ATP or be able to obtain one within 12 months of hire date, and must be able to obtain a First-Class Medical Certificate annually.
