Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing HR programs and services that support a safe, reliable, and high-performing culture for a growing Alaska-based commuter airline. This role partners with department leaders and the President/CEO to recruit talent, foster positive employee relations, ensure workforce compliance, and promote SMS engagement initiatives in a dynamic aviation environment. This position balances day-to-day HR operations with practical problem-solving for frontline and administrative teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and support talent recruitment activities for operational and administrative roles, including pilots, aircraft mechanics, dispatchers, station operations, and support staff; coordinate with hiring managers on sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, and terminations while promoting a just culture and safety mindset.
- Administer performance management processes, goal setting, and feedback cycles; support managers in effective coaching and documentation.
- Oversee and support compensation and benefits administration, including open enrollment, leave of absence management, and coordination with payroll and benefits vendors.
- Ensure day-to-day compliance with employment laws and maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data.
- Develop and lead the company Assistance Response Plan, ensuring integration and coordination with the Emergency Response Plan.
- Support department leads on qualification tracking, recurrent training, and workforce readiness.
- Drive employee engagement and retention efforts, including recognition programs, surveys, and culture initiatives tailored to shift-based and multi-base operations.
- Support organizational changes, restructurings, and new hire orientations with clear communication and practical process execution.
- Promote the company Safety Management System to increase awareness and engagement between all departments.
- Generate basic metrics and reports (turnover, headcount, time-to-fill, etc.) to inform leadership decisions.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions and manager support.
- Contribute to policy updates, process improvements, and continuous enhancement of HR service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification.
- 3 or more years of progressive HR experience, with at least 1 year in a generalist or manager-level role.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law and experience handling employee relations in a regulated, operational setting.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and build credibility with both frontline employees and leadership.
- Hands-on experience with recruiting, onboarding, performance management, and HRIS systems (Homebase, ADP, etc.).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with high attention to confidentiality and detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
- Experience in the airline, aviation, transportation, or other safety-critical/regulated industry.
- Familiarity with crew scheduling considerations and FAA training/qualification requirements.
- Experience supporting shift work and a multi-base/remote operational workforce.

Work Environment
Office-based in Soldotna, AK, occasional travel to Western Alaska bases will be required. Must be comfortable working in an operational airline setting and available for urgent employee relations or operational support needs outside standard business hours when necessary.
