Duties

Manage and oversee all aspects of accounting functions including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and cash management.
Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting.
Prepare accurate financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, supporting transparency and informed decision-making.
Conduct detailed financial analysis and account analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely completion of financial close activities.
Utilize financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms for efficient data entry, reporting, and analysis.
Perform budget forecasting and variance analysis to support organizational planning efforts.
Manage treasury functions including cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Supervise accounting when applicable, providing guidance on technical accounting issues such as double entry bookkeeping, payroll processing, and regulatory compliance accounting.
Maintain strict adherence to internal controls aligned with SOX compliance standards; implement improvements as needed.

Experience

Proven experience in accounting roles with a focus on nonprofit or governmental sectors preferred; public accounting experience is highly valued.
Strong background in financial report writing, account reconciliation (including balance sheet reconciliation), and financial analysis.
Familiarity with financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero or similar tools; proficiency in Excel data analysis is essential.
Excellent understanding of treasury management practices, including accounts payable/receivable processes and cash flow forecasting.
Ability to interpret financial data into clear reports for diverse stakeholders; strong technical accounting skills are required.

An applicant could be a semi-retired or an independent contractor working with multiple clients. Prefer local in the Ft Lauderdale area or in a 30-mile radius. There will be onsite sessions and remote.

Pay: $40.00 - $70.00 per hour
