Position Summary
The BLS Ambulance Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring non-emergency and emergency Basic Life Support ambulance transports. This role serves as the primary communication hub between EMT crews, healthcare facilities, air medical providers, and internal operations staff to ensure safe, timely, compliant, and efficient patient transport services.
Key Responsibilities
Dispatch & Communication
- Receive and process transport requests via phone, email, fax, electronic forms, or scheduling platforms
- Verify patient, pickup, destination, and medical necessity information prior to dispatch
- Assign BLS ambulance units and EMT crews based on availability, location, and service priority
- Maintain constant radio/phone communication with field crews during transports
- Coordinate with hospitals, dialysis centers, nursing facilities, airports, and air medical providers
- Monitor unit status (en route, on scene, transporting, available, out of service)
Scheduling & Operations
- Schedule routine, recurring, and same-day BLS transports
- Adjust schedules in real time due to delays, cancellations, traffic, or patient condition changes
- Manage wait times, return trips, and standby assignments per contract terms
- Ensure coverage for all confirmed transports and escalate staffing or vehicle issues as needed
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document all dispatch activities in the CAD or scheduling system
- Ensure required documentation is received or noted (PCS forms, prior authorizations, facility info)
- Record trip times, mileage, delays, cancellations, and no-shows
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of patient information
- Support billing accuracy by ensuring complete and accurate trip records
Customer Service & Professionalism
- Provide professional, courteous communication with facilities, patients, and partners
- Address inquiries, complaints, or concerns and escalate issues appropriately
- Maintain calm, organized communication during high-volume or stressful situations
Safety & Quality
- Follow company policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures
- Report incidents, delays, or safety concerns to management promptly
- Support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Previous EMS, medical transportation, or dispatch experience (required)
- Knowledge of BLS ambulance operations and terminology (required)
- Strong verbal communication and multitasking skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Proficient with computers, dispatch software, and basic office applications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience dispatching non-emergency medical transportation or ambulance services
- Knowledge of airport, air-medical, or dialysis transport coordination
- Bilingual (a plus, not required)
Work Environment & Schedule
- Fully Remote
- May include nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts

Pay: $500.00 - $600.00 per week
