Position Description:
The Aircraft Mechanic Helper is responsible for assisting the Aircraft Mechanics as they perform routine and non-routine maintenance and repairs on aircraft to ensure safe and reliable operation in compliance with all applicable safety regulations. This position requires close collaboration with supervisors, other mechanics, pilots, and the Director of Operations.
The position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
- Assist Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics as they repair and perform maintenance on aircraft, including dismantling, repairing, assembly, and erection of machinery and mechanical devices.
- Perform all work in a prompt and timely manner, adhering to all policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of regulations and policies and procedures.
- Assist in performing regular system inspections as directed.
- Maintain systems and equipment as directed.
- Perform troubleshooting as directed.
- Assist with maintenance and repair logs.
- Understand and apply guidelines from manuals and blueprints.
- Ensure compliance with regional safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other mechanics/pilots.
- Monitor and report on project progress.
- Follow safety rules and regulations.
Other duties as assigned; such as:
- Contract ramping and customer service including; baggage handling, boarding and deboarding assistance, and assisting passengers.
- Cleanliness of hangar, office, and living quarters.
Working Conditions
Working conditions include both inside and outside, exposure to range of climate conditions from inclement to extreme weather, below zero temperatures, high winds, reduced visibility. Remote conditions. Length of the duty day may vary. Ability to cope with constant darkness in the winter to perpetual sunlight in summer.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements:
- Proficiency in aviation electronics
- Understanding of aircraft parts, systems, and mechanics.
- Understanding of tools and testing methods used to ensure proper functioning of an aircraft and its parts, systems, and mechanics.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and adhere to manual instructions to resolve complex mechanical issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software used to help complete and maintain records.
- Detail-oriented with mechanical inclination.
- Superior and careful workmanship.
- Ability to perform consistently under stressful conditions.
- Ability to assist in performing basic inspections and repairs.
- Ability to learn new skills and methods of repairs.
- Sufficient oral and verbal communication skills, as needed, to discuss equipment malfunctions and complete reports.
- Minimum 1 years experience as a Mechanic Helper
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed (usually multiple days at a time). This may encompass 10-20% of time.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical demands that are essential to the job include standing, walking, bending, climbing up to aircraft.
- Lifting up to 75bs routinely and safely, and occasionally heavier items, carrying boxes, bags and various objects. Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Requires stretching, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods of time. Subject to loud noise and vibration, as well as other motion typical during flight.
- Climbing may be required up and down low step ladders, in and out of aircraft, stooping is necessary for inspections of aircraft and/or to retrieve tools and supplies from the floor or under desks, kneeling and crouching may be required for various tasks.
- Must be able to stand, lie, and kneel in awkward positions and spaces.
- Must be able to perform work on scaffolding or ladders.
- Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds at a time.
- Manual dexterity and physical strength necessary to operate tools or make adjustments and repairs.
- Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
- Must be able to hear well enough to test sounds and identify functioning level of aircraft.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
