Position Summary: EAS is seeking a highly seasoned and experienced aerospace Fiber Optic (FO) Wiring Technician who will be responsible for helping establish and supervise an FO cable manufacturing capability. Applicants must be experienced in the manufacturing of FO cables as well as performing wiring removals and installation for communications systems within aerospace platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both fiber and copper terminations, attention to detail, and a commitment to workmanship and precision. Responsibilities also include FO characterization testing and quality inspections for manufactured cables.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in establishing the manufacturing capability for certified fiber optic cables and harnesses; select, set up, and configure necessary fiber optic tooling; create the applicable processes and procedures
- Perform fiber optic terminations using small form factor military and industry specified cables and connectors to include Multi-fiber Termination Push on (MTP), Lucent Connector (LC), Straight Tip (ST), Mechanical Transfer-Registered Jack (MT-RJ), and D38999 Mil Spec Circular termini
- Provide supervision for assigned projects; document work performed accordingly and accurately
- Fabricate fiber and copper wiring cables and harnesses using standard termination, splicing, and soldering techniques; inspect cables and harnesses to ensure compliance with quality standards
- Perform acceptance and characterization testing of fiber and copper cables and harnesses to include continuity, insertion loss and return loss testing; utilize industry standard test equipment
- Provide formal and on-the-job training and instructions to fellow technicians
- Read and interpret electrical and fiber schematics, wiring diagrams, and inspection criteria
- Establish and maintain organized work areas and adhere to ESD, Safety, and Quality control standards
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to ensure assemblies meet performance criteria
- Review business opportunities to determine labor, parts and equipment required for pricing purposes
- Install, modify, and/or repair wiring harnesses and communications equipment based on engineering drawings or aircraft maintenance manuals
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of related fiber termination experience; supervisory experience preferred
- Strong familiarity with MTP, LC, ST, MT-RJ and Mil Spec connectors a must
- IPC-A-640A and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification preferred
- Experience with EMI/EMC over-braiding and installation techniques preferred
- Be able to interpret/understand wiring schematics and mechanical drawings a must
- U.S. Citizenship (U.S. Government program requirement)
- Ability to obtain a Government Secret Security Clearance; active DOD Secret Clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 6 years preferred
Preferred Certificates:
- ETA Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) or Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT)
- IPC-A-640A Certification (Acceptance Requirements for Optical Fiber, Optical Cable, and Hybrid Wiring Harness Assemblies)
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification (Acceptability of Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies)
- OSHA 10 or 30 General Industry Safety certification (preferred)
Working Conditions:
- Wire harness fabrication takes place in a normal shop environment. Removals and installations take place on aircraft which may be in a hanger environment or outdoors on a parking ramp
- Tolerate standing for extended periods of time, bending, stretching, crawling, repetitive motions, working in confined spaces and heights
- Work in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
- Available to travel

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
