Overview
THE ROLE:
The Sr. Pilot Plant Technician will work onsite at our state of art Innovation and Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC. Will support the Research & Development (R&D) department by conducting experiments in the R&D Center of Excellence facility employing the disciplines of food/pharmaceutical sciences and or engineering. The Sr. Technician will be required to generate R&D product and commercial samples along with documentation of all the data generated during this process. Responsible for maintaining the laboratory workspace, equipment and inventory to meet all requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices. A solid background in Scientific method is required to complete day to day tasks. This position requires the ability to work independently on routine jobs, with general instructions on new assignments. Will lead and mentor technicians and interns in areas such as safety, quality, and technical execution. In summary, this position is required to deliver quality projects on time and within budget to support the R&D COE.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:
- Implement development activities as assigned, including dispensing of raw materials, generation of R&D product and commercial samples for internal or external evaluation, manufacture of feasibility trials and/or pilot batches, and completion of physical testing.
- Document all experiments and result in development batch records/protocols and/or laboratory notebooks and electronic files.
- Sets-up, maintain, and clean laboratories equipment and work area.
- Maintain raw material inventory.
- Follow all safety procedures and practices. Maintain a safe work environment.
- Implement detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
- Write formal scientific experimental reports.
- Perform a wide variety of development and/or production laboratory tasks and experiments.
- Mentor laboratory technicians and provide feedback to group members to help accomplish project objectives.
- Ensure all documentation produced is in compliance with cGMP standards.
- Contribute to audit readiness and participate in quality audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Skills:
- Ability to coordinate workload, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines for deliverables
- Ability to multi-task on several projects individually as well as in a team environment
- Maintain and operate laboratory equipment according to equipment instructions and SOPs
- Ability to quickly learn and implement new computer-based systems and experimental techniques
- Strong problem-solving skills and able to carry out assignments under general supervision
Experience:
- 2-5 years of related industry experience or laboratory experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to direct and receive written and verbal instructions.
- Familiar with common laboratory equipment.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office and other job-related software.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Education:
- Bachelor degree in food science, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical engineering
Or
- Associate degree + 4 years' experience in a pharmaceutical or food manufacturing or laboratory environment with the ability to perform advanced mathematical and scientific computations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of laboratory and pilot scale equipment in the Food or Pharmaceutical Sector Experience working in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environment
