About the Role
The LTL Transportation Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) transportation services to support efficient and cost-effective freight movement. This role works closely with carriers, operations teams, distribution centers, finance, and customers to optimize transportation spend, improve service performance, and maintain carrier relationships.
The specialist analyzes freight data, monitors market trends, supports bid events (RFPs/RFQs), and ensures transportation providers meet service, compliance, and contractual expectations.
Wage Rate
Starting $50,000.00
Responsibilities
- Source and negotiate LTL carrier agreements, pricing, and service terms.
- Manage carrier procurement activities including RFPs, RFQs, and annual bid processes.
- Analyze freight spend, lane utilization, accessorial charges, and carrier performance metrics.
- Develop strategies to reduce transportation costs while maintaining service levels.
- Build and maintain relationships with regional and national LTL carriers.
- Monitor carrier KPIs including on-time delivery, claims ratios, transit performance, and billing accuracy.
- Collaborate with operations, warehouse, customer service, and finance teams to align transportation strategies with business needs.
- Review freight invoices and resolve billing discrepancies or accessorial disputes.
- Maintain transportation contracts and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support transportation network optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track market conditions, fuel trends, capacity constraints, and carrier availability.
- Assist with transportation management system (TMS) updates and procurement reporting.
Experience & Skills
- 4+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, or transportation, with strong LTL exposure
- Knowledge of freight classifications, NMFC codes, and carrier pricing
- Experience working with TMS, ERP, or shipping software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic reporting tools
- Knowledge of freight pricing structures, NMFC classifications, and transportation terminology
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting transportation RFPs and carrier bid events.
- Familiarity with freight audit and payment systems.
- Knowledge of supply chain analytics and transportation optimization tools.
- APICS, CSCMP, or transportation-related certifications are a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle Transportation Management.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time; 8:00am – 5:00pm
