Job Description
ZenaTech is seeking an Instrument Person / Rodman / Junior Survey Drone Technician to support drone-based land surveying and geospatial operations. This is an entry-level position for candidates interested in both traditional survey fieldwork and drone technology, offering a clear growth path into advanced surveying and UAS operations.
This role is hands-on and physically demanding, requiring work outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as heavy lifting and manual survey tasks. Candidates must be prepared for the all aspects of surveying, including digging for monuments, carrying equipment, and working long hours in the sun or rough terrain.
This is a full-time, on-site role in Beaverton, OR.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with survey setup including GPS rovers, total stations, tripods, and ground control points.
- Support drone crews during UAS missions (launch/recovery, battery changes, safety checks).
- Perform field labor tasks:
- Digging to uncover and set survey monuments.
- Marking/staking points in soil, gravel, or uneven terrain.
- Carrying and lifting survey/UAS equipment (up to 75 lbs).
- Work outdoors in sun, rain, cold, mud, and rough terrain.
- Collect and organize field data for mapping, boundary surveys, and construction projects.
- Record accurate field notes, sketches, and barcode scans for asset tracking.
- Ensure proper care, transport, and maintenance of survey and UAS equipment.
- Follow safety standards and assist with field risk assessments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required). Coursework or degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or GIS preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (Required).
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Interest in surveying and drone technology; prior exposure a plus.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and experience with drone technology.(High Asset, eligible for Junior Survey Drone Technician)
