Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, and assisting with overall compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will be an independent self-starter, have a strong background in accounting and investment reporting, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate an ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including review of transactional bookkeeping for investments, real estate holdings, operating entities, and personal accounts.
- Reconcile bank and brokerage accounts to financial records.
- Monitor cash account balances and ensure liquidity for operational and personal family member needs, acting as a bridge between the AP department and CFO for funding requirements.
- Receive all capital calls and distribution notices for investments and ensure cash is sent or received on time.
- Prepare and maintain intercompany debt amortization schedules and ensure principal and interest payments are collected and paid timely.
- Assist with tax preparation and maintain organized, up to date tax document files for multiple taxable entities.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding and application of accounting principles and regulations.
- Prepare detailed financial reports for investment and operating entities, to be presented to family office executives and stakeholders.
- Assist the CFO with preparation of investment performance reports and other financial analyses.
- Utilize company software platform to appropriately categorize all cash transactions from investment activity and prepare reports on individual and portfolio level investments.
- Update valuations of investments within company software as external reports are released from each investment.
- Ensure that data within the company software platform is regularly audited for accurate reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA or other relevant professional certification is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in accounting or financial reporting, preferably within a family office or high-net-worth environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Proficiency in software systems including QuickBooks, bill.com, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with an investment aggregation platform is a plus.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, and a commitment to the privacy of the family’s financial and personal lives.
- Self-starter with initiative and strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A willingness to learn in a fast paced and dynamic environment, and the flexibility to change course quickly as different family and business needs arise.
