Position Summary
The Tool and Parts Attendant provides tool room support services essential to the mission of the United States Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center (ALC). This position is responsible for the receipt, storage, issuance, tracking, calibration coordination, and inventory control of government-furnished tools, equipment, and test devices in accordance with established tool control programs, safety regulations, and aviation standards.
Shift Time: Evening Shift (2nd Shift) running from 3:30 PM - Midnight. Shift differential of $2.25 per hour for this position.
Duties
- Issue, receive, and account for tools, equipment, test, measuring, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE), shop supplies, and replacement parts using the prescribed tool control software system.
- Maintain accurate, real-time inventory records and ensure accountability for all government-furnished tools, toolboxes, and specialty equipment.
- Conduct daily, periodic, quarterly, and annual inventories, including required wall-to-wall inventories, and reconcile discrepancies promptly.
- Identify, tag, mark, and etch tools using approved identification methods (laser etching preferred) and ensure proper marking of calibrated tools.
- Inspect tools and TMDE for wear, defects, or calibration status and coordinate repair, replacement, or calibration as required.
- Track calibration schedules, maintain calibration certificates, and prepare tools for scheduled calibration.
- Maintain broken tool documentation and initiate disposal documentation when required.
- Assist customers in identifying appropriate tools, recommending substitutes or interchangeable items when necessary.
- Perform minor tool repairs when feasible.
- Prepare and submit Division Material Requests (DMRs) for tool and supply replenishment and maintain supporting documentation.
- Search for lost or misplaced tools and issue temporary replacement tags when necessary.
- Build, organize, and maintain mechanic and crew toolboxes with proper shadowing and accountability controls.
- Ensure compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Operate material-handling equipment, including forklifts, as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of tool room operations.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to successfully pass a federal background investigation
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Tool and Parts Attendant using a perpetual inventory system OR a minimum of two (2) years experience working with aviation-type tool control systems (experience may be waived at the Contracting Officer’s discretion).
- Knowledge of common tool control software systems.
- Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with maintenance personnel.
- Ability to read and apply technical manuals, instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a contractor-certified forklift license.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stretch for extended periods.
- Frequently lift items up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to independently lift up to 40 pounds or heavier items with assistance or lifting devices.
