This position will have a strong emphasis on intercom and Garmin avionics products and integrated flight deck systems and will work closely with our maintenance, flight operations, and management teams to maintain aircraft in a safe, compliant, and mission-ready condition.
The ideal candidate is highly skilled in avionics troubleshooting, understands FAA maintenance requirements, is comfortable working independently, and has hands-on experience with Garmin avionics systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, inspect, test, repair, and maintain aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
- Diagnose avionics discrepancies using wiring diagrams, maintenance manuals, test equipment, and manufacturer technical data.
- Perform installation, configuration, software loading, testing, and troubleshooting of Garmin avionics products and systems.
- Support Garmin GPS/NAV/COM, transponders, ADS-B, audio panels, flight displays, autopilot/flight-control interfaces, and other installed Garmin equipment.
- Perform operational checks and return-to-service testing following avionics maintenance.
- Troubleshoot aircraft wiring, connectors, antennas, data buses, power distribution, and related electrical systems.
- Assist with avionics upgrades, modifications, STCs, and new equipment installations.
- Maintain accurate aircraft maintenance records and documentation in accordance with company procedures and applicable FAA requirements.
- Ensure work is performed using current manufacturer maintenance manuals, ICAs, wiring diagrams, service information, and other approved or acceptable technical data.
- Coordinate with Garmin and other OEM technical-support representatives when advanced troubleshooting is required.
- Work with pilots and operations personnel to identify, reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve reported avionics discrepancies.
- Support aircraft during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including troubleshooting aircraft that are away from home base.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, avionics documentation, and applicable software/database resources.
- Support the company's Part 135 and government-contract aircraft as applicable.
- Maintain a high level of aircraft readiness and respond quickly to aircraft-on-ground (AOG) situations when required.
Qualifications
- FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate preferred; appropriate FAA certification or authorization required for work performed.
- Previous professional aircraft avionics maintenance experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Garmin aviation products.
- Ability to read and interpret aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, maintenance manuals, installation manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills, including use of multimeters and avionics test equipment.
- Understanding of 14 CFR Parts 43, 91, and 135 as applicable.
- Ability to properly document maintenance actions and aircraft discrepancies.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with pilots, maintenance personnel, management, and outside vendors.
- Ability to prioritize aircraft availability and respond to time-sensitive maintenance needs.
Preferred Experience
Garmin factory or manufacturer-authorized training is highly desirable, particularly experience with integrated flight decks, navigators, displays, transponders/ADS-B equipment, autopilot systems, and Garmin configuration/diagnostic tools. Experience supporting Part 135 aircraft, turbine aircraft, Pilatus PC-12 and/or Citation-series aircraft is also preferred.
Work Environment & Expectations
While most scheduled maintenance will be conducted in an air conditioned hangar, this position will also require occasional travel, after-hours troubleshooting, and support of aircraft operating away from the company's home base. The technician must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment where aircraft availability is important while maintaining the company's safety and compliance standards.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is motivated and hard working, humble, and smart - a technician who takes ownership of problems, follows through until they are resolved, communicates clearly, and understands that quality and safety cannot be sacrificed for speed. The right candidate will be proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do and will take pride in keeping aircraft safe, compliant, and ready to fly.
