Position Summary
The A&P Mechanic plays a mission-critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and availability of JAXAERO’s aircraft fleet. This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft to ensure full airworthiness and strict compliance with FAA regulations.
Beyond technical proficiency, this role supports the broader training mission by helping keep aircraft safe, airworthy, and reliable, directly impacting student progress, operational efficiency, and trust in JAXAERO’s safety culture.
This position is ideal for a disciplined, detail-oriented mechanic who takes pride in high-quality work, clear documentation, and supporting a professional flight training environment.
Core Responsibilities (Primary Duties)Aircraft Maintenance & Airworthiness
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on piston-engine aircraft in accordance with:
- Manufacturer maintenance manuals
- Approved data and best practices
- Conduct and/or assist with:
- Other required service checks
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and basic avionics issues and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Ensure aircraft are returned to service only when fully airworthy and compliant
Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
- Accurately document all maintenance actions in:
- Digital maintenance tracking systems
- Ensure maintenance records are complete, legible, and audit-ready
- Airworthiness Directives (ADs)
- Service bulletins and manufacturer updates
- Maintain strict compliance with JAXAERO’s maintenance policies and procedures
Fleet Reliability & Operational Support
- Coordinate closely with the Maintenance Manager, flight operations, and dispatch to:
- Minimize aircraft downtime
- Prioritize maintenance tasks based on training needs
- Communicate aircraft status clearly and professionally to maintenance leadership
- Assist in identifying recurring issues or trends affecting fleet reliability
- Support preventative maintenance strategies to reduce unscheduled downtime
Secondary Responsibilities
Hangar & Work Area Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance environment
- Ensure tools, equipment, and workspaces are properly stored and maintained
- Follow all safety protocols related to chemicals, equipment, and aircraft handling
- Proactively identify and report safety hazards or facility issues to the Maintenance Manager
Parts, Tools & Materials Support
- Assist with identifying, ordering, and tracking parts, tools, and materials
- Verify parts and components meet required specifications and approvals
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager on inventory needs and critical spares

Qualifications
- Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate (Required)
- Minimum 2 years of general aviation maintenance experience after achieving A&P (Preferred)
- Flight training or fleet environment preferred
- Experience with piston-engine training aircraft, especially Cessna 172 and Piper twin-engine planes.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and mechanical skills
- Working knowledge of basic avionics troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and FAA documentation
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively
Physical & Working Conditions
- Work performed primarily in a hangar environment
- Exposure to aircraft noise, chemicals, lubricants, and varying weather
- Requires lifting up to 50 pounds and working in kneeling, bending, confined, or elevated positions
