POSITION DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
The Harbour Master (aka Operations Manager) is responsible for leading all aspects of Home Base Operations at the brand new Sky Harbour BDL campus. Sky Harbour offers our Residents the best home base solution in business aviation, an alternative to the traditional transient-focused FBO operation, and is a fast-growing, exciting company to work for. The right candidate will have a balance of relevant operational experience, an entrepreneurial mindset, strong customer orientation, and enthusiasm for being a key leader within a unique and evolving business.
The Harbour Master will ensure departmental compliance with appropriate rules, regulations, and policies of the Company, the Airport Authority, and all local or State agencies affecting the Airport and Sky Harbour Operations.
The Harbour Master role is critical to Sky Harbour’s ability to deliver value for our Campus Residents, as they set the tone for the overall quality of the operation. They must strive to be knowledgeable regarding all technical subject matter in areas of the operation, the requirements of their Residents, and lead their team by example. Our approach also requires the ability to rigidly adhere to appropriate safety and technical operating standards while seeking to innovate and improve the local operation to the benefit of our Residents and your team – structured empowerment.
The Harbour Master for this location is going to be responsible for the startup of a brand new campus – so this is a unique opportunity to serve as the founding leader of the Sky Harbour team for the Bradley operations. Our team is relatively small and growing quickly – providing a unique opportunity for this individual to leverage their experience and be part of shaping the future of the business.

Essential duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Maintain site practices and procedures that contribute to a safe, positive, and enjoyable work environment.
Supervise ramp, hangar, and fueling activities to assure safe, efficient and timely delivery of service to our Hangar Residents.
Ownership of a workplace culture that strives for the highest degree of mutual respect, excellence in safety and environmental compliance, customer service and support standards, and overall team member retention and performance development.
Proactively monitor and update daily aircraft arrivals and departure requirements. Ensure that service meets customer needs and expectations per their agreements.
Manage hiring and scheduling for all Operations team members at the campus aligned with Sky Harbour policies and procedures, prioritizing operational requirements and overall Campus efficiency.
Oversee training programs, including Sky Harbour’s rigorous proprietary three phase program – initial, drills, and recurrent – as well as the industry leading tow qualification program; may also include assignment and development of a designated Base Trainer.
Design and facilitate appropriate regular communication with Home Base Residents to ensure service accuracy, timeliness and completeness.
Interface with Residents to ensure all service requirements are met per their agreements and that they are satisfied with our service. Proactively communicate with them and build strong relationships to stay ahead of any potential service issues.
Coordinate and engage as needed with airport authority representatives (via airport meetings and other forums) as well as other local community partners to build strong local working relationships on behalf of Sky Harbour.
Promote partnerships with vendors and other third parties to the benefit of Residents and Sky Harbour (ex: other aircraft services to be provided to Residents on your campus).
Understand the campus-level expense budgets, quarterly forecasting, and annual budget processes and manage operations in a way that maintains high facility and service standards while being cost efficient.
Manage opportunities and risks in your operation and develop local goals and objectives to deliver excellent Resident experiences, develop your team’s capabilities, and optimize operating profit for the base.
Ensure processes and systems related to campus operations are used consistent with company policies and procedures while providing feedback to leadership on opportunities for improvement.
Manage facility and equipment preventative maintenance programs to ensure high facility standards and reliability of ground support equipment.
Enforce company policy and procedures, including administration of disciplinary action as directed by the Senior Director of Campus Operations.
Regularly inspect the facilities for cleanliness, brand standards, and proper operation; log issues, and proactively report any discrepancies to the Senior Director of Campus Operations and National Property Manager.
Regularly inspect the campus equipment (GSE) for cleanliness and brand standards, proper operation, and preventative maintenance program adherence; proactively log any issues, and report any equipment discrepancies to the Senior Director of Campus Operations and National GSE Manager.
Operate fuel trucks, aircraft tugs, lav carts, water carts and various other pieces of GSE as needed.
Proactively report incidents or near misses, lead investigations, and share learnings with others as needed to continuously reduce our operational risk.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of aviation, hospitality operations or other relevant leadership/supervisory experience
- Meet Sky Harbour’s operations, service and training requirements
- Consistently demonstrate organizational and leadership skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit

- Good communication skills, both written and oral
- Highly collaborative, hands-on mindset
- Procedurally oriented but with flexibility as needed to safely achieve the mission
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Flexible availability; may include working overtime, nights, on weekends, holidays, and ‘on call’ to meet the needs of your operation
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid state driver’s license and meet the company’s insurability requirements

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
