Job Summary
The Avionics Specialist is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics systems in general aviation aircraft. This role ensures all electronic systems meet regulatory requirements and operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade avionics systems including communication, navigation, surveillance, and flight control systems
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on avionics equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions using specialized test equipment and technical manuals
- Repair or replace defective components such as wiring, circuit boards, antennas, and instruments
- Interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer specifications
- Ensure all work complies with FAA regulations and applicable airworthiness standards
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Collaborate with pilots, maintenance teams, and engineers to resolve technical issues
- Support aircraft return-to-service processes following maintenance or upgrades
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in Avionics, Electronics, or related field preferred)
- FAA Airframe (A) or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification preferred
- Minimum 2–5 years of avionics experience in general aviation or similar environment
- Strong knowledge of aircraft electrical and avionics systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and test equipment
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modern glass cockpit systems (e.g., Garmin, Honeywell)
- Familiarity with ADS-B, GPS navigation, autopilot systems, and IFR certifications
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL)
- Experience with aircraft modification and STC installations
Work Environment
- Work performed in hangars, workshops, and occasionally outdoors on the flight line
- May require lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
- Exposure to noise, fuel, and varying weather conditions
