SUMMARY: Operates machinery to include: lathes, milling machines, boring machines and grinders; machine metallic and nonmetallic work piece according to specifications, tooling instructions and standard charts applying knowledge of machining methods.
REQUIRED Essential duties and responsibilities:
Operates machinery to include: lathes, milling machines, boring machines and grinders.
Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, example dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and determines sequence of operations.
Selects, positions and secures tool in tool holder (chuck, collet, or too post).
Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches.
Measure tool and work offsets and adjust as necessary to machine parts to print. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other.
Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed. Directs flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.
Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments, for example fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
Operates bench grinder, drill presses and hand tools to debur parts.
Keeps machines and work area clean.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma/GED
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
6 months of machining courses from an accredited institution or equivalent (6 months) experience in a Machine Shop.
Education or experience in blueprint reading
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand while performing the duties of this job (approx. 70%) and walk (25%) and occasionally sit (5%). The employee is expected to lift or move materials (25%) weighing up to 30 lbs.
