About Dynamic Metal Innovations
We’re a precision metal fabrication and machining company specializing in laser cutting, machining, and rapid prototyping, headquartered in Emmaus, PA, with a subsidiary, DMI-Texas, LLC, in Brownsville, TX. Now in our seventh year, our team of 45+ across both locations is a premier vendor of tooling and components for advanced aerospace programs. If you’re driven by precision work that contributes to the future of flight and exploration, you’ll fit right in.
About the Role
We supply critical tooling and components for advanced aerospace programs — and we’re growing fast. As we scale, we need a Machine Shop Supervisor who can own the day-to-day operations of our machining department and drive it forward. You’ll lead a skilled team of machinists, ensure production goals are met, and maintain the quality standards our aerospace customers depend on. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who knows machining deeply — not from the office, but from years of hands-on time at the machine — and knows how to get the best out of a shop team.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 5–10 years of hands-on machining experience in a job shop environment — this is a hard requirement. If you haven’t run real parts on real machines in a job shop, this role isn’t the right fit.
- Proven ability to operate manual and CNC milling machines to produce tight-tolerance parts. You need to be someone your machinists can come to with a hard setup or a tricky print.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing shop teams — hiring, training, performance management, and building a culture of accountability.
- In-depth knowledge of machining processes, tooling, feeds and speeds, fixturing, and GD&T.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with relevant estimating, CAD, and programming software.
Preferred
- Experience with the ProtoTRAK CNC mill.
- Experience operating a Doosan 5700 or a machine with a Fanuc 10M controller.
- Background in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.
- Associate’s degree or vocational certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
What You’ll Do
- Own operations management. Plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day machining activities to meet production schedules and optimize resource allocation. Monitor and improve key metrics including safety, productivity, quality, and on-time delivery. Ensure proper maintenance of all equipment.
- Lead and develop your team. Lead, mentor, and manage shop employees, fostering a positive and accountable work environment. Own hiring, training, performance management, and development for your department.
- Drive quality and continuous improvement. Oversee quality control processes, implement quality management systems, and lead continuous improvement initiatives grounded in Lean Manufacturing principles. Ensure all drawings are properly bubbled and documented within the ERP system.
- Provide technical oversight. Serve as the technical authority on the floor — troubleshoot machining issues, provide guidance to operators, and ensure all work complies with engineering specifications and customer requirements. Your machinists should be able to bring you their hardest problems and trust that you’ve seen it before.
- Manage inventory and budget. Oversee inventory levels for tooling, materials, and consumables. Manage the shop budget with a focus on cost control and make informed recommendations for equipment investment and upgrades.
- Champion safety and compliance. Maintain a safe working environment at all times. Enforce safety protocols and regulations, lead by example, and ensure the entire team follows proper procedures without exception.
What Success Looks Like
We don’t expect you to transform the shop on day one. Here’s how we picture this role coming together over your first year:
In your first 90 days
You know the machines, so you hit the ground running. You’re learning our specific jobs, tooling, fixtures, and workflows — our ERP system, how we schedule and prioritize, and the quirks of our equipment. You’re building trust with your team by showing up on the floor, getting your hands dirty when it counts, and demonstrating that you know this work from the inside out.
By six months
The department is running with rhythm. Schedules are being hit, quality issues are getting caught and corrected fast, and your team knows what’s expected of them. You’ve identified the biggest opportunities to improve throughput or reduce scrap and you’re actively working them. Engineering and production trust you to flag problems before they become crises.
By the end of your first year
You’ve made the machining department something we don’t have to worry about. Your team is more capable than when you arrived, on-time delivery is strong, and you’ve built a culture where quality and accountability are the norm. You’re the person leadership turns to when we’re scaling up capacity, quoting a complex job, or making a capital equipment decision. In short: the shop runs better because you’re in it.
