Base Leg Maintenance is seeking a skilled and creative Aircraft Interior & Upholstery Specialist to help us repair, restore, and upgrade the interiors of our aircraft. This is a hands-on position for someone who combines strong sewing and upholstery skills with an eye for design and takes pride in producing beautiful, precise finished work.
Aircraft interiors are an important part of the passenger experience, and we are looking for someone who can see both the technical and aesthetic side of a project. The ideal candidate understands how materials, stitching, fit, color, texture, and finishing details come together to create an interior that feels polished, comfortable, and intentional.
Aviation upholstery experience is highly valued, but it is not required. We are also interested in candidates with strong experience in automotive interiors, marine upholstery, furniture upholstery, custom sewing, or similar trades who are interested in bringing those skills into aviation.
Responsibilities
- Remove, repair, recover, and reinstall aircraft seats and seat components
- Measure, pattern, cut, fit, and sew leather, vinyl, fabric, and other upholstery materials
- Create and replace aircraft seat covers, cushions, armrests, and related soft goods
- Repair and replace aircraft side panels and other interior upholstered components
- Perform decorative and functional stitching, including topstitching and detail work
- Create patterns from existing aircraft interior components and modify patterns when necessary
- Evaluate existing interiors and recommend practical repair, restoration, or replacement options
- Assist with selecting materials, colors, stitching styles, and finishes for interior refurbishment projects
- Ensure upholstery fits properly around aircraft structures, hardware, seat frames, and interior components
- Maintain clean, consistent seams, stitching, alignment, and finishing throughout each project
- Carefully disassemble interior components so they can be properly reinstalled after refurbishment
- Work closely with our maintenance and operations teams to coordinate aircraft interior projects
- Maintain an organized workspace and properly care for sewing machines, upholstery tools, and materials
- Complete projects efficiently while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is both a craftsperson and a creative problem solver. Aircraft interiors are not always straightforward, and the right person will be comfortable looking at an existing seat, panel, or interior and figuring out how to make it better.
Strong candidates will have:
- Professional sewing and upholstery experience
- Experience operating industrial sewing machines
- Strong pattern-making, measuring, cutting, fitting, and fabrication skills
- Experience working with leather, vinyl, fabric, foam, and upholstery materials
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly with stitching, seams, symmetry, fit, and finish
- A strong visual sense for color, texture, materials, and overall interior design
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of a project from removal through finished installation
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to fabricate or modify pieces when an off-the-shelf solution is not available
- A commitment to producing clean, professional-quality work
Preferred Experience
Previous aircraft interior or aviation upholstery experience is a major plus, but we encourage experienced professionals from related industries to apply. Relevant backgrounds may include:
- Aircraft upholstery and interior refurbishment
- Automotive upholstery or custom automotive interiors
- Marine or yacht upholstery
- High-end furniture upholstery
- Custom leatherwork
- Commercial or industrial sewing
- RV, coach, or specialty vehicle interiors
Experience with custom or luxury interiors is especially valuable.
The Person Who Will Thrive in This Role:
This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys making things look exceptional. You notice when stitching isn't straight, when two panels don't quite match, or when a material choice could be improved. At the same time, you understand that good design has to be functional and durable.
We want someone who can look at an aging aircraft interior and envision what it could become—and who has the hands-on skills to make that vision a reality.
This is not an assembly-line upholstery position. Our aircraft and projects vary, so the work requires creativity, adaptability, patience, and craftsmanship. You may be repairing one component on one project and helping redesign an entire interior on the next.
About Base Leg Maintenance:
Base Leg Maintenance is a growing general aviation maintenance company based in Peachtree City, Georgia. We maintain fleets of aircraft serving charter customer customers and flight schools throughout the Southeast and beyond, with a focus on providing convenient, personal, and high-quality service.
As our operation grows, we are continuing to invest in the appearance, comfort, and quality of our aircraft interiors. This position will play an important role in helping us develop an increasingly consistent and distinctive look across our fleet.
Because this is a craftsmanship-focused position, we strongly encourage applicants to include links to photos or a portfolio of previous work. Aircraft work is not required—we would be happy to see examples of automotive interiors, boat interiors, furniture, leatherwork, custom sewing, or other relevant projects.
We are especially interested in seeing examples that demonstrate your sewing ability, attention to detail, creativity, and quality of finished work.
