Position Overview: The Aircraft Deice Manager plays a critical role in the safe and efficient removal of all snow, frost, ice, etc., on departing planes at the Portland International Jetport. This position requires attention to detail, not only with the operation, but supervising and mentoring the Deice team.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Ensure employee and department equipment are in compliance with all FAA, airline, and airport regulations and training requirements
- Work closely with Ground Support Equipment (GSE) department and General Manager (GM) to ensure equipment is maintained to a high quality standard to ensure equipment longevity
- Perform daily equipment checks
- Operate large deicing equipment in inclement weather (snow, ice, freezing rain, etc.).
- Manage relationships with airline station managers and deice suppliers to ensure great customer service
- Work to implement and advance company initiatives such as safety measures and best practices
- Effectively manage payroll, invoice, glycol inventory, and department budget
- Evaluate team performance, looking for ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Continually track and evaluate deice truck maintenance and squawks
- Maintain meticulous recordkeeping and documentation
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned to help NEA attain corporate goals
Skills / Qualifications:
- Must reside in Maine and be in commute distance to Portland
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screen and physical
- Have valid and active driver's license
- Strong proficiency in English (read/written/verbal) required
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously

- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a methodical manner
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and all snow events
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Physical activity requires walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stooping
- Knowledge of the deice trucks and operation: Global, JBT – Tempest 1 and Tempest 2
- Use of Google and Microsoft software for administrative tasks
- Understanding of the use of the LAS Glycol Pro Junior Gen II Blending System.
